A higher education provides the groundwork for any type of career that a student could pursue. While the path of an education is difficult to progress, it worth it for the opportunities that it brings. As a student, it is strenuous process going through many years of education learning and relearning topics that are needed for the future career. A higher education was once an option, when in society today it is required to live a comfortable life. Throughout a student’s education and future, they will be constantly learning new things. A student who does not earn a degree cannot reliably afford housing and or food to live off, making it impossible not to search for a higher education.
To survive in college level or higher classes a student must devote an excess amount of their time to school. Time management is hardest obstacle to overcome because there is always more a person can prepare or study for a subject. An education is not meant to be easy, Ronald Barnett says “A genuine higher education is unsettling; it is not meant to be a cozy experience”. (Barnett 115-6). This type of education is active, having the student learn not only through challenging them with participation, but through questioning the material being taught. A higher education teaches the student to accept that they will still learning new things throughout their life. At the start of school the student is required to take a diverse set of classes, before having career specific classes. This is to force them to adapt to a variety of skill sets before putting in work for their major.
Long ago getting a bachelors degree is this ages equivalent of getting a masters degree. The requirement of education changes over time, making a student put in a greater amount of work to reach their goal. A higher education is very important when looking for a job because they employer will chose the person with the higher degree or experience. As a student starting from the beginning is a scary idea. Just thinking about the sheer amount of ideas and information that has to be known over the next years is terrifying. A student who wants to go for their doctorate, must spend 7 years studying, and the rest of their life learning. Preparing for a subject won’t help in the long run because that is only focusing on one aspect of an education. A student should develop a sound plan to figure out how much time they should devote to learn a topic. There is never enough studying or preparing for classes, a student could always read ahead or see the teacher after class to question the information in class.
The world is an enigma, and every student must figure out what the solution to their problem is. By learning to develop study and homework habits, a student has enough time in the day to focus on other academic priorities. Bulleting the student with questions helps them learn to adapt to whatever problem they may encounter, whether it be at their job or in the classroom. This teaches a student to not passively learn, but interact with the material. School is not supposed to be a comfortable part of someone’s life, it sparks a student’s ability to handle pressure that they will encounter later in life. A higher education is essential for a student who wants to get a job fit for the work they put in.
