Complex

This is a shift in the person’s attitude throughout their narrative, changing from one type of thinking to another.

In this sentence the subject of a person’s attitude is emphasize with a dependant clause and an independent clause. This is because the first part of the sentence is the explanation, which leads to a point which cannot be a sentence by itself.

She describes her view from a victim’s standpoint which undergoes an identity shift in the end to a student who has learned to overcome such a situation, becoming able to gain knowledge.

This sentence gives a summary of one of the literacy narratives, describing her situation. The last part of the sentence cannot be a sentence by itself, therefore forming a complex sentence. This is emphasizing the shift from one view point to another.  

What a student doesn’t know is that their narrative is just one of many different experiences that they have been through in their pursuit of literacy, not just one singular.\

This sentence is giving the out the idea that a literacy narrative is on essay about one point in their literacy career. Making up 1 out of the many many teachers a student has throughout their lifetime. This shows how a person can be shifted multiple times throughout their life/

 

Compound

This change could be caused by a sponsor withholding literacy from the student, forcing them to adapt to the challenge

In this sentence there are two subjects and two predicates, forming a compound sentence. This is because each of these two parts of the sentence can be their own if needed. In this sentence emphasize how a sponsor can be the sole change in a person’s literacy and make them adapt to their teachings.

A shifting identity is common in a literacy narrative, that a student is changed for the better or worse due to their literacy experiences.

This is my thesis statement in my intro paragraph, and provides a compound reason how shifting in identity is connected to their literacy experiences. Each part has its own subject and its own verb, therefore each sentence can be used separately.

If a student has an especially influential peer to guide and help them on a journey to literacy understanding, then that person caused them to go down a whole different path in life due to this experience.

In this compound sentence the reader can easily see how these two parts could be their own sentences. They are even as long as separate sentences, providing information about literacy understanding a student can go through, can lead them to a different path in life. These two ideas are connected and belong close to eachother.
